CMC Visiting Assistant Professor of History

The Department of History at Claremont McKenna College invites applications for a full-time non-tenure-track position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor in European History before 1914 for the academic year 2014-2015. The successful candidate should be prepared to teach a survey of Early Modern European history and a course in the European history of gender for the fall semester, and two to three courses in European history before 1914 in the spring term. These may include colonial history, Atlantic history or some form of global or world history. Preference will be given to candidates working outside German and Russian history.

CMC history courses generally have fewer than twenty students per course and center on reading, writing, and discussion rather than lecture. We invite applicants specializing in British, European, or Atlantic World history;

Applicants should submit a CV; a cover letter; at least three letters of recommendation; a brief writing sample (e.g. published article or dissertation chapter); sample syllabi for an Early Modern European survey and a European history of gender seminar; a descriptive list of at least three proposed courses for the spring of 2015; and evidence of teaching effectiveness (preferably from multiple courses). Please submit electronic copies of all materials no later than August 1, 2014 to:
