Movement of Books in the Early Modern Hispanic World
Proposals are sought for a session examining the movement of books in early modern Spain and Latin America, to be held at the 2014 meeting of the Sixteenth Century Society and Conference (SCSC), October 16-19, in New Orleans. Papers may consider the displacement of written works through physical space or across cultural boundaries. Possible topics might include the economics of the transatlantic book trade, restrictions on printing and circulation (and the circumvention thereof), the presence of foreign books in Spain and the colonies, the production of foreign editions and translations of Hispanic works, and the adaptation into Spanish of non-Hispanic texts. Papers should relate to the period covered by SCSC, defined roughly as 1450-1660. Send a 250-word abstract by March 21 to email@example.com.
