Great website. Please add my name to your list of scholars. Also, you might note the recent volume: Marcello Fantoni, George Gorse, and Malcolm Smuts, eds., The Politics of Space: Europe Courts, ca. 1500-1750. Rome: Bulzoni, 2009, which includes an essay I've published on Madrid: “A Forum for the Court of Philip IV: Architecture and Space in Seventeenth-Century Madrid" (pp. 121-140).

Wow! That's an impressive bunch. I remember reading some of Martinez's early work, a Harvard paper, and thinking -- this is great. Congratulations to her and Schwartz.

Thank you for posting this, Scott. I didn't know about the exhibit, and love Meléndez. I also just found out about this exibit:

The Sacred Made Real | 21 October 2009 – 24 January 2010 | Future Exhibitions | National Gallery, London

It focuses on 17th century Spanish devotional art, and it will be coming to DC Feb-May 2010.

Roger & Erin,

Thanks! It's so gratifying that others find it useful. Even if few others perused it, doing the blog would be worth it to me just as a way of forcing me to stay on top of what's new, like Roger was saying.

Congratulations and thank you for the blog. Wow. That's interesting that All Can Be Saved was the book of the year -- I used that in a course for Spring 2009 and my students enjoyed it. I'm not sure I would use it again; I like Renee Melammed's and David Graizbord's texts a bit more.

Yes, I peruse the the Kings List, I mean historians list (a bad joke referring to Sumeria) often. It is really helpful because I know I can come to your blog and find who I am looking for at the moment. Plus, it is a great way of keeping an eye out for new colleagues. (okay, it its a who's who -- and its fun to check up on!)

The best thing about your blog is the continuously updated list of new journal articles and book reviews. Actually, I have a love hate relationship with it...I love it because I get the feeling that it is pretty comprehensive...I hate it because it reminds me of everything I haven't read, but need to read! :-)

Keep up the good work.

Happy anniversary! I haven't commented much (if at all) but I've been delighted with this blog, and share your reaction at the quality and breadth of good research out there. There are definitely things you've brought to my attention that I would have missed otherwise. Many thanks!
